On the afternoon of May 15, the event “Melodies in Motion, Music from the Heart” — WIT English Corner was held at the Hongzhuan One-stop Student Service Center on the Wuchang Campus. Professor Zhang Yunfeng and students from the College of Foreign Languages, together with Professor Xia Tian and over 40 students from the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, participated in the event.

The English Corner, themed “Music,” featured a variety of engaging activities such as “Guess the Song” and a “Music Knowledge Quiz”. Amid melodious tunes and lively discussions, students experienced the unique charm of the English language when it harmonized with music.

During the “Guess the Song” session, students listened attentively, responded quickly, and participated with great enthusiasm. Each correct answer was greeted with warm applause, and the winners were given the opportunity to draw a reward from the snack box, creating a lively and cheerful atmosphere.

The “Guess the Song by Lyrics” segment was equally engaging. Just a few lines of English lyrics containing the song title sparked students’ curiosity and competitive spirit. Through active participation, they not only enhanced their listening comprehension skills but also deepened their understanding and appreciation of English lyrics.

During the “Music Knowledge Quiz” session, students learned English through music by exploring questions such as “What are the main elements of a song (melody, lyrics, rhythm, beat, etc.)?” and “How can we evaluate a song (catchy, meaningful, upbeat, emotional, etc.)?” Students participated enthusiastically, expanding their repertoire of practical English vocabulary and improving their ability to express themselves in English through the interactive Q&A process.

The free discussion session brought the atmosphere to another climax. Students were divided into small groups to engage in lively discussions on the topic “My Favorite Song.” They freely shared their thoughts from various perspectives, such as the reasons for their preferences, the emotions conveyed through the lyrics, and the personal significance of the songs.

Through this process, students not only developed their public speaking and communication skills but also deepened mutual understanding and friendship through meaningful interaction.

Using music as a bridge, this English Corner event enabled students to enhance their English communication skills in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Through music as a universal language, it also fostered emotional connection and cultural interaction among students from different majors and year groups.

The College of Foreign Languages will continue to make full use of the One-stop Student Community to innovate activity formats and create more platforms for students to express themselves, communicate, and learn from one another.
