As the golden autumn ushers in the season of gratitude for teachers, the results of the 2025 FLTRP Teaching Star National Competition — Curriculum Ideology and Politics Case Category were announced on Teachers’ Day, September 10. Professor Chen Bin from the College of Foreign Languages at Wuhan Institute of Technology stood out from more than 2,000 submissions nationwide with her innovative teaching practice in the course College English A3, winning the National First Prize.

This award is a vivid reflection of Professor Chen Bin’s long-term dedication to classroom teaching and her commitment to promoting the deep integration of ideological and political elements into foreign language education. Building on her provincial-level first-class undergraduate course, she has thoroughly studied the Understanding Contemporary China textbook series, carefully uncovering the ideological connotations and value orientations underlying language instruction. By organically integrating the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China into her course design, she has effectively realized the goal of bringing ideological and political education into teaching materials, classrooms, and students’ minds.

With the innovative application of digital intelligence technologies, Professor Chen has established a new “three-in-one” teaching paradigm that integrates value guidance, knowledge transmission, and competence development. Her English classes not only convey the beauty of language but also serve as fertile ground for nurturing patriotism, social responsibility, and the spirit of youth with moral integrity.

According to official sources, the FLTRP “Teaching Star” Competition is one of the 53 core events recognized by the Ministry of Education in China’s National Teaching Development Index for University Faculty. In 2025, the competition was officially upgraded and integrated with the former National College Foreign Language Curriculum Ideology and Politics Teaching Case Competition, evolving into the Curriculum Ideology and Politics Case Category.

Jointly organized by the National Research Centre for Foreign Language Education at Beijing Foreign Studies University and the Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP), the competition has become an important indicator and benchmark in China’s foreign language education, playing a key role in advancing the principle of moral education as the foundation of teaching and serving the strategic needs of national development.

In addition, during the preliminary rounds of the 2025 FLTRP Teaching Star Competition, the team of Professor Tang Fang, Professor Peng Nengyuan, and Professor Chen Heng won the Second Prize, while Professor Liu Chan received the Third Prize in the French group.

The outstanding performances of these teachers in the competition not only demonstrate Wuhan Institute of Technology’s continuous exploration and solid achievements in integrating ideological and political education into curriculum reform, but also reflect Hubei Province’s steady progress in leveraging the unique strengths of foreign language disciplines to tell China’s stories well and cultivate a new generation for the new era under the framework of holistic education.

Their innovative experiences and exemplary practices are expected to provide replicable and scalable models for the development of curriculum-based ideological and political education in foreign language programs across both the province and the nation.

Building on this success, Wuhan Institute of Technology is actively summarizing and refining outstanding teaching cases to promote the transformation of curriculum-based ideological and political education from point breakthroughs to system-wide achievements, continuously enhancing the university’s distinctive role in nurturing talent in the new era.
