Program Objectives

This track aims to cultivate application-oriented and interdisciplinary professionals with Chinese sentiment, international perspective, social responsibility, and service awareness. Students will acquire solid English language proficiency, comprehensive language application skills, and extensive knowledge of Chinese and Western humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and relevant disciplines. Graduates will be competent in practical and other types of translation, consecutive interpretation of general difficulty, cross-cultural communication, and language services in foreign affairs, economy and trade, culture, press and publication, education, tourism and other sectors, with strong critical thinking, innovation ability, good moral and psychological qualities, and cooperative awareness.

The English major has enrolled undergraduates since 2002 and is one of the first two brand majors in the “liberal arts category” of Wuhan Institute of Technology. Since 2006, it has pioneered the development of the “English + Other Majors” (abbreviated as “E+”) integrated interdisciplinary talent training model, taking the lead in initiating the “E+” program in China. The Foreign Language and Literature first-level discipline, which the major relies on, was approved as a “Key (Cultivation) Discipline of Hubei Provincial Universities” in 2013, a Master of Translation and Interpreting (MTI) program in 2014, and a first-level discipline master’s program in Foreign Language and Literature in 2017. In 2020, the English major was recognized as a First-Class Major in Hubei Province. Currently, focusing on the construction of the Foreign Language and Literature discipline, the program adopts a two-pronged educational approach based on professional reality and national social talent needs:

Program Objectives

Facing the whole country, adapting to economic transformation and upgrading, economic and social development, and based on the needs of the international legal service field in Hubei Province, this track cultivates high-quality, application-oriented and interdisciplinary international legal English talents with innovative spirit, practical ability, solid English proficiency, extensive common law knowledge, good moral cultivation, strong social responsibility, and awareness of the international economic and trade legal environment. Students will master extensive English language knowledge and common law knowledge, be familiar with the Chinese legal system, and possess English communication and collaboration capabilities, legal English communication and service comprehensive application skills.
